In an era when many buttons and ribbons were used in every outfit, it was quite common to carry a little hook with you which helped fasten buttons -for instance those on a pair of gloves- and garters. This foldable button hook is very practical, but also a beautiful jewel that could be proudly displayed.
Button hooks would most often be made of nonprecious metals. This luxurious example, however, is made from solid 18k gold, decorated with six pinkish-red paste stones, three old mine-cut diamonds, and ten rose-cut diamonds, which have been set in silver settings.
