This fob seal originally hung from an unknown gentleman's watch chain, and was used to wind a pocket watch.
It is decorated with a enamel pattern in multiple colours, and set with a carnelian intaglio seal. This seal depicts a griffin raising from a crown with its wings spread, with the motto 'Dieu Defend Le Droit' (God defends the Right) above. This motto was used in the United Kingdom by the Spencer family, of which the late Princess of Wales Diana was its most famous member.
