This 18k yellow gold horseshoe pendant was converted from an antique stickpin.
It is shaped like a horseshoe and set with a row of rubies on one side, and a row of emeralds on the other, making it wearable on both sides. The design is completed with six tiny rose-cut diamonds, set in platinum settings.
The horseshoe is an ancient good luck symbol, going as far back as Roman times. The origin of the horseshoe as a symbol of luck is linked to several myths and legends: the hoofed devil was said to have donned horseshoes and was told never to enter a home with a horseshoe above the door. Witches were believed to fear horses, so hanging a horseshoe warded them off.
