This large statement ring is centered by a red paste stone, which is engraved with an intaglio depicting the Greek mythological hero Hercules. He is depicted wearing the skin of the Nemean lion around his head, and tied into a knot under his chin. Killing this ferocious monster was one of the famous twelve (deemed impossible) tasks Hercules had to fulfill, and he is often depicted proudly wearing the skin as a trophy.
