This 19th-century ring is made from 18k gold and set with an unusual combination of antique-cut diamonds and cabochon-cut cat’s eye chrysoberyl. The 18k yellow gold shank has an engraved pattern on the side and is fitted with two sizing beads, ensuring the front of the ring does not move around when you wear it.
The ring is centered by an old mine-cut diamond of circa 0.30 carats, encircled on the top, bottom, and shoulders by eight smaller diamonds. All diamonds combined have an approximate weight of 0.70 carat, an estimated colour of G-H, and clarity VS-SI.
The central diamond is flanked by two oval chrysoberyl, which have been cut ‘en cabochon’ to bring out a beautiful effect known as cat’s eye. This effect is induced by the presence of tiny rutile inclusions, which have grown perpendicularly, contributing to the cat's eye effect. By cutting the stone ‘en cabochon’, the light that enters the stone is reflected so that it creates an illuminated band, much like a cat’s eye that lights up in the dark.
