This 14k yellow gold ring is set with an emerald-cut moss agate panel, which has been placed in an open setting.
Moss agate is the trade name for a specific variety of semi-translucent variety of agate that has dendritic inclusions that create a moss-like appearance. Since this pattern developed organically when the stone developed in the earth's crust, each specimen of moss agate is completely unique.
The inside of the ring shank has been engraved, which tells us that it was originally worn as a memorial ring, likely of a wedding or engagement, since the inscription reads 'C.J.E to A.G.H. Dec 15th '69'.
