This 18k yellow gold stickpin was originally worn in a man's cravat, the predecessor of the necktie.
It depicts a trowel, made from a kite-shaped portrait-cut diamond of circa 0.50 carats (7.5 x 7.2 x 7.1 x 1.4 mm), H-I SI2 quality, and a semi-baguette-shaped diamond as its handle.
It is very likely that this trowel pin was worn by a member of a Masonic order. Freemasonry refers to ancient fraternal organizations that can trace their origin to local stonemasons guilds in the 13th Century, which would regulate the qualifications of stonemasons and their interaction with authorities and clients. The trowel is a faint reminder of these origins. Nowadays, it is also seen as a symbol of the orders spreading the 'cement' of brotherly love and affection.
This stickpin could be converted into a pendant for a small extra fee if desired: feel free to reach out via the contact form if you would like to discuss this option.
