This Georgian pendant brooch is a wonderful little remnant of its era, in which romantic jewels with a symbolic meaning were popular. The 'Crowned Heart' was a popular motive in 18th-century jewellery, symbolizing that love rules all.
The design is centered by a crowned heart, set with small flat-cut garnets. To us, this heart might look too oval, but was quite usual to depict a heart without a cleft in the 18th Century.
Behind a glass panel in the heart's center, we see the monogram 'MP', crowned by a laurel wreath. These symbols tell us that this jewel was worn as a love token, and possibly given as a part of a betrothal.

Age: 18th Century, also known as the Georgian era, circa 1800.
Hallmarks: Acid tested as 9k gold.
Condition: In antique condition with some wear, consistent with its age. The brooch fitting was added later in the 19th Century, and the top garnet is cracked. This can be seen in the pictures.
