These 19th Century earrings are made of two malachite beads, each centered by a star-shaped gold inlay. Their pushers have been fitted with a special round discs, which helps them sit upright on your earlobe.
Malachite is a vivid green mineral which is composed of alternating bands of light and dark green. Semi-precious gemstones such as agates, onyx and jaspers were much loved and appreciated in the second half of the 19th Century for their colour and unique patterns. Malachite was most often sourced from Siberia, where it was found in abundance. These earrings would have certainly given any Victorian outfit a welcome pop of colour!
