This large 18kt yellow gold ring is fitted with a gold coin in a raised setting. The coin is an after strike of a Napoleon memorial coin from 1805, which was struck to commemorate Napoleon's rise to the emperor of France in 1804. He is displayed like an ancient emperor would be on ancient Greek and Roman coins, with his face 'en profil' and wearing a laurel wreath. Around his head you can read the title 'Napoleon Empereur', and beneath him the maker of the original coin, 'Den Jeuff'.
