This 14k yellow gold pointer 'target' ring is centered by five old mine-cut diamonds, ranging from 0.28 to 0.42 carats. All diamonds have a combined estimated weight of 1.83 carats, are about I-J in colour, and VS-SI in quality. These diamonds are encircled by a row of tiny natural rubies, partially 'calibrated', of cut to fit neatly next to each other.
Old mine-cut diamonds are the predecessor of the modern round-brilliant cut and were often used in jewels from the 18th to 19th Century. The fact that we find these in this 1920s ring points to them being reused from a different antique jewel.
