This 14k yellow gold lavalier necklace has an elegant open-worked design, which is very typical for the early years of the 20th Century, the period that we now call the Belle Epoque period (circa 1910s). It is offered with its original green box, which is decorated with garlands.
It is set with thirty-four rose-cut diamonds in closed settings. The two large pear-shaped rose-cut diamonds, one in the center and one dangling at the bottom, each measures circa 6.8 x 5.8 mm and has an estimated weight of 0.65 carats. All diamonds combined have an estimated weight of 1.50 carats.
Lavalier necklaces are characterized by a pendant or drop which is not attached by a bale but is the center part of the necklace. These types of necklaces were made popular by the Duchesse de la Vallière, a mistress of King Louis XIV of France.
