This large, gilded watch fob is topped by an Asian elephant, which stands on a chased base, decorated with foliage and floral wreaths.
The bottom is set with a table-cut rock crystal. There are faint traces of foiling behind the quartz indicating that it originally would have appeared a bright red, but time has faded the dyes and created a beautiful patina.
Fobs like these would have been worn on a watch chain of a Victorian gentleman. Officially, seals were used to sign letters, but evolved to show the wearer's personality or interests.
